| Avoriaz is located in France in the Haute-Savoie region - tucked in close to the Swiss border, just south of Lake Geneva. At an altitude of 1800m, Avoriaz is a sure bet for snow in Wintertime. It's a village with a special calmness as it is a car free zone. Guests are greeted by horse and sled at an unloading area outside town, and then the cars are parked away for the duration of the stay. Getting arond town is on foot, on skis/snowboard or per horse & sled. The 8 of us had rented 2 neighbouring appartments - close to the Pistes - meaning that we were out to catch the first lifts every morning, despite some late nights.
